Three two-bed apartments and the same number of one-bed apartments will be created on the first and second floor of 8-10 Church Street in the town centre.

In the planning statement that accompanied the application, Gloucestershire-based agents Agrarian explained that the scheme would deliver a number of benefits to the area including providing residential accommodation close to existing public transport and also contributing to the supply of housing in Rugby, particularly smaller units where there was an identified need.

The report added: “It is evident that the council have a commitment to the regeneration of Rugby and it is envisaged that the proposed development, although on a relatively small scale, can act as a catalyst for the further regeneration of the town centre.”

It is expected that the existing ground floor businesses will not be affected by the development on the upper floors and access to the flats will be from the rear where a bin store and cycle storage area will be created. No extra parking spaces will be provided but there is a bus stop to the front of the premises.
