Exctinction Rebellion group holds protest outside council HQ to urge more action against climate change in Warwickshire

Protest group Extinction Rebellion (XR) have held a demonstration outside Warwickshire County Council's headquarters in Warwick to encourage the authority to take action against climate change.

The 'Rebels' from the Warwick District branch of XR stood outside Shire Hall last Saturday (July 25) as part of the group's ongoing Stand Up For Change protest.

Chris Philpott, media and communications spokesman for the group, said: "We must remember that more and more of the public are understanding the XR message.

"Results of an international survey of 23 countries showed that in 2013, 56 per cent of respondents said climate change was their top concern, in 2017 it rose to 63 per cent and in 2018 it was 67 per cent.

"The protest was aimed at Warwickshire County Council to try and get them to carry out some action on the climate emergency instead of dragging their feet.

"They are doing something but not enough. It is hoped that with the government initiatives on improving energy efficiency in buildings will be the catalyst to get WCC into action.

"Further protests by XR will be at the Shire Hall on 22nd September and will continue until there is evidence that our County Council produce a clear plan to implement the changes needed to address the climate Emergency. "
