The family of former professional golfer Dale Concannon who is suffering from terminal brain cancer are appealing for help from the community.

His wife, Laura, said treatment for stage four glioblastoma (GBM) has been stopped due to Covid-19 and she has been unable to see him for four weeks.

She said he only has months to live but needs financial support to cover monthly bills and more carers.

"We don’t understand how he went to bed fine one night then awoke to GBM stage four," said Laura, who lives in Ettington.

"I am very stressed, it’s been over a week since I have seen Dale.

"I hate that because of Covid-19 I can’t be there to support him."

As a former professional golfer, Dale is known by many people for his love of golf - and he is also a Sunday Times best selling book author and golf historian.

He finished six weeks of very aggressive chemotherapy and radiation on February 20 and lost 80 per cent of his vision.

On April 24 he had a fall and broke his left shoulder which has left him completely immobile.

Laura said: "Dale's prognosis is just months to live and his chemo treatment was stopped because of Covid-19."

Talking about his care, she added: "It takes myself and two carers to help move him. Dale requires 24 hour care.

"The funds will also help with end of life care. My husband is very private and wanted no one to know about his brain cancer.

"But this is too big of a battle to fight alone and we need your help. Plus I want him to know people do care.

"My husband is dying. Dale has been self employed his entire life and his passion for golf is unwavering.

"We rent privately. I worked the last three years as a dresser at the RSC and my contract ended March 10.

"I was entitled to be furloughed so we lost all of our income. We need help.

"In golf the definition of a mulligan is a second chance to perform an action usually after the first chance went wrong through bad luck.

"My husband wishes he had a mulligan as he has lost so much.

"The cancer and radiation took away his vision and his entire working life.

"I hope golf returns so we can share one more Ryder Cup together. My husband is fighting so hard to live."
