Firefighters rescue tortoise in response to flat fire call in Warwick

Firefighters have rescued a tortoise after responding to a flat fire call out in Warwick.

Crews from Kenilworth fire station and Leamington fire station were sent to the call out at around 1pm on Saturday (July 25).

When the crews arrived they found a ground floor flat that was heavily smoke logged,

Firefighters said that the source of the fire came from a tortoise tank where the heating lamp had dropped onto the bottom of the tank.

A spokesperson from Kenilworth fire station said: "Crews quickly took the tortoise from the tank to fresh air.

"The flat was ventilated using a positive pressure

"By having working smoke alarms this gave early warning to the neighbours who called 999 early enough that the fire didn’t destroy the flat and for the tortoise to survive."
