Flags are at half-mast on all fire stations across Warwickshire today in tribute to national hero Captain Sir Thomas Moore.

The 100-year-old, who raised almost £33 million for NHS charities by walking laps of his garden, died with coronavirus in Bedford Hospital yesterday (February 2).

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service have said: "A true hero, a war veteran and known more recently for inspiring our nation and capturing our hearts through this Covid pandemic.

"He raised millions for our NHS and he raised our spirits in trying times.

"Captain Sir Tom Moore - A beacon of hope and fortitude to us all, you will be remembered."

The flags at Leamington Town Hall are flying at half mast in honour of 'Captain Tom'.

Captain Tom turned 100 in April last year and Courier readers paid tribute to him.
