Harbury farm opens milk vending machine to offer fresh milk to community

A farm in Harbury has opened a milk vending machine to offer fresh milk to the community.

The Harbury Milk Shed is being held at Chesterton House Farm, in Mill Street which is run by George Clarke.

It is open seven days a week from 6.30am to 10pm.

George said: "We have over 100 milking cows on the farm, kept outdoors in the spring, summer and autumn to graze the fields that surround the village and when the weather changes, the cows are bedded down and kept warm and dry.

"They feed off the grass that we have harvested throughout the summer to ensure a healthy balanced diet.

"The milk we sell in the vending machine is lightly pasteurised being our only single process in producing this natural product.

"Our milk is approximately 96 per cent fat free and is not homogenised or standardised, meaning all the natural goodness that the cows produce has been left in.

"We keep our food miles very low, from cow to vending machine in 50 steps ensuring this milk is kept very fresh and not stored on shelves for days on end."

The milk in the machines comes in glass bottles, making them reusable and recyclable.

As well as milk, the farm will also be selling cheese and on a Saturday mornings there will also be fresh bread for sale..

Reusable glass bottles cost £2 from the vending machine and a litre of milk cost £1.20.

Currently this is cash only.
