A resident in Hatton Park is taking on a festive fundraiser in aid of a charity close to his heart.

Gareth Powell is running seven miles every day for seven days to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

"It seems like that’s not much we can do.

"So inspired by both Kevin Sinfields seven in seven run and by Rich who is such a magnificent athlete, I am going to fill my time by running seven miles a day for seven days finishing on Christmas Eve."

Many residents in Hatton Park may know Gareth and his family for having the 'Homer house' as every year they put up an inflatable festive Homer Simpson.

The festive Homer also made an appearance during the first lockdown in March with the aim of bringing a smile to residents during the pandemic.

Gareth started his challenge on December 18 and he will be dressing up for his runs - drawing inspiration from the Hatton Homer.

He said: "We put Homer out every year.

"I will mostly be dressed as Santa but sometimes dressed in honour of Hatton Park's Homer Simpson."

Gareth has also been overwhelmed by the support he has received so far.

He said: "We are collecting for MNDA - a great cause.

"The target was originally £777 but we are way past that in just 48 hours so am so grateful to everyone who has donated. And to all who have beeped their horns in support.
