Here's how residents in and around Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth can pay tribute to Prince Philip

Residents in the Warwick district can pay tribute to His Royal Highness, Prince Philip through flowers and with a minute silence this week.

Following the announcement on Friday April 9 of the death of Prince Philip the flag at the Town Hall in Leamington will remain lowered at half-mast during the eight-day period of national mourning.

In leading the District’s tributes to the Duke of Edinburgh both the Chairman and Vice Chairman of Warwick District Council would like to encourage local people to make a donation to one of his Royal Highnesses’ many patronages or charities in preference to laying flowers or other memorial items.

Cllr Martyn Ashford, The Chairman of Warwick District Council said: “We understand that many of you will want to find a way to reflect and pay tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh, however national restrictions continue to limit our ability to organise for gathering together in any of our public places.

“I shall be watching Saturday’s funeral from home and marking the one minutes’ silence at 3pm with my thoughts for the Royal Family and all those in our District who have recently lost loved ones.”

If you do wish to lay flowers the suggested places across the District for this are:

• Kenilworth – Abbey End, Globe Hotel Memorial

• Warwick – Pageant Gardens, around the tree

• Leamington – Pump Room Gardens, the bandstand site

• Whitnash - next to the War Memorial outside St Margaret’s Church

People are being asked to not leave flowers wrapped in paper or plastic and to leaving candles.

Those placed outside of the designated areas will be moved to the official area, and then removed the day after the funeral to be composted, where possible.

There will also be a National One Minutes’ Silence on Saturday April 17 at 3pm.
