Dave then went on to become Whitnash Mayor twice, first in 1998-1999 and then again in 2008-2009.

He served on every committee on Whitnash Town Council during his time as a councillor, and was given the honour of Freeman of the town for his dedication and long service.

When he stepped down as a councillor, he went on to become chairman of the Whitnash Society.

Dave was one of the organisers of the original Whitnash Carnival and the bonfire night events, and was also a member of the Whitnash Twinning Association.

His passion for gardening meant displays of flowers in the town council flowerbeds were all provided by him grown and from seed.

He and his late wife loved to take part in line dancing, and he would come to the Whitnash Indoor bowls sessions until his failing health prevented him attending.

His funeral will take place on Wednesday May 12, 10am at Oakley Wood Crematorium, although due to Covid restrictions, the numbers are limited.

The hearse will proceed through Whitnash from Montgomery Road down Heathcote Road to the Plough & Harrow, before it continues its journey to Oakley Wood, should residents wish to pay their respects.

Dave’s family have set up a Just Giving page in memory of him, which is raising funds for Guide Dogs For the Blind and Myton Hospice.
