Churches of all denominations in Kenilworth and the surrounding area are working together for Christian Aid Week.

After responding to the Government directives to close all churches they started to transmit worship services to their congregations on the internet, sometimes using social media such as Facebook and Zoom conferencing.

Christian Aid is currently working with partners to help communities living in poverty during the pandemic. They are concerned that if infection rates start to develop as they have in Europe, then people in poorer countries will be hit even harder.

Keith Grierson, chairman of Churches Together in Kenilworth and District (CTK&D) said: "There cannot be a door to door collection this year, so we have launched a local Christian Aid online appeal to help those in poor countries who are infinitely worse off than ourselves.

"We look to all members of our community, including church members, to contribute generously, as you have in the past.

"Please go to our Just Giving page and give as much as you can afford."

CTK&D are also using Zoom conferencing to hold a launch service for Christian Aid Week.

This will be held at 6.30pm on Sunday May 10. Local church members and Christian Aid supporters will lead and participate.

This initiative demonstrates the different Christian Denominations working together.

Keith Grierson is a member of St Nicholas C of E Church and the Christian Aid organiser for Kenilworth is Elizabeth Kirwan from St Francis Roman Catholic Church.

Elizabeth and Keith said: "We totally support the Christian Aid Ethos and we urge the community to show their customary generosity to those less well off."
