Kenilworth hairdresser hosting community pumpkin head walk this weekend
A hairdresser from Kenilworth is hosting a community pumpkin head walk in Abbey Fields this weekend.
Taking place on Sunday October 25 at 11am, the free ticketed event which is now sold out, will see people gather wearing handmade papier-mâché pumpkin heads for a walk and a group photo.
Those taking part will meet at Wedge in Talisman Square before heading to Abbey Fields.
Andrew Phimister-Double, who is based at the Room 27 hair salon in Warwick Road, said: “It started by accident. Last year a client and I put real pumpkins on our heads, walked through Abbey Fields taking photos and went for a coffee afterwards.

“The reaction online was so big that it felt daft not to open it up to everyone.
“This year every head has been made by hand by myself and painted in Crazy Color hair dye, which came from an event earlier in the year that had to be cancelled. Rather than let the products sit in a spare room, they've gone into something the town can join in with.”
Andrew handmade 30 pumpkins so posted 30 free tickets for people.
After the walk, those who have tickets are being invited back to coffee shop Wedge to buy a drink.

He added: “I never expected to get as much attention and be as popular as it has been. I only thought it would be maybe six of us having a laugh about it, never imagined it would be a sell out.
“Although tickets have completely sold out, people can drop me a message on Instagram with the word WAITLIST and if anything comes up they will be the first ones to know.”
It has also been a busy year for Andrew, as he has also been fundraising throughout the year for Hair Reborn – a charity supporting people going through cancer treatment.
He wanted to host the pumpkin head event as a thank you to the community for the support shown for his fundraising efforts.

Andrew said: “I wanted to keep the pumpkin event as low cost or free to attend as a thank you to everyone within the community who has supported me with the fundraising I have done for Hair Reborn over the last year.
“Wedge are kindly opening up for us for this event and the one thing I ask is for anyone attending to purchase a drink from them.
“I've been blown away by the support and interest that's been shown towards this.”
Andrew added that everyone is welcome to join the walk and photo event if they have their own pumpkin head or would like to watch but said Wedge will only be open to those who have one of the 30 tickets.
