Ikigai Ryu’s Contemporary Warrior Academy has been created to provide 16 to 20-year-olds with a platform to learn life skills by translating traditional martial disciplines into modern, real life, practical applications.

Only five prospective students will be selected to be part of the first cohort, which is due to start in October, after which they will be eligible to stay in the programme for three years or until they reach the age of 21.

Students will take part in weekly classes, have 1-2-1 instruction which is usually reserved for professional clients, join zoom study groups, attend bespoke seminars and have access to a mentor and coach throughout the programme.

All of scheduled to work around study, jobs and other life commitments. During their training they will learn Martial Arts (for self-defense), Meditation and Breathing skills (for stress relief and study enhancement) as well as life skills like interviewing and presentation techniques, health, fitness and wellbeing.

Craig Dickson, Head of Ikigai Ryu, said “It is not easy for young adults starting out on their journeys these days, and many leave school to find that they are entering “real life” ill-quipped for the challenges that they will face.

"The world is increasingly full of perils, even in leafy Warwickshire, and it is getting harder for those going into the world to differentiate themselves amongst their peers.

"In developing our Contemporary Warrior Academy, we wanted to take the best parts of the discipline of traditional warrior ways and translate them into contemporary applications to supplement the transition into higher education and/or the working world.

"Students should be under no illusions that they’ll be put through their paces and will need to be committed but, in return, they will be getting a unique opportunity to gain esoteric skills that are not widely available at a substantial discount to normal professional rates.”.

Ikigai Ryu is a new Martial Arts, Qi Gong, meditation and life mastery school.

As well as having over 25 years’ experience in various traditional arts, the lead instructor, Craig Dickson, is also the CEO of one of the UK’s largest commercial law firms, an accomplished public speaker and author.
