Kenilworth Mayor praises staff of town's Iceland branch which closed on Saturday

Kenilworth Mayor Cllr Alison Insley has praised long-serving staff at Iceland in the town which closed for good on Saturday after being open for 37 years.

The Kenilworth branch of the supermarket chain opened at 2 Warwick Road in 1989 after the company bought the frozen food retailer Bejams.

Cllr Insley said all staff at the branch have been offered suitable positions at alternative locations, or taken the opportunity to change direction.

She added: “It was good to talk to the staff this morning before they opened, they were in high 'spirits', and preparing for closure.

“The manager Dorianne has been at this store for 17 years, while Carl has completed nearly 20 years, with most of the staff being long-term employees.

"I want to thank all the staff for everything they have provided, day in, day out and carried out their duties with pride.

"Good luck for the future.”
