Nurse Louise Lynam launched the Warwickshire Egghut community project during the last lockdown in order to support farmers and to support the healthy treatment of hens and the free-range eggs they provide.

She said: "It started in lockdown as a way to give neighbours farm fresh eggs when supermarket supplies were running out and people were less inclined to leave the house.

"I began by posting hand written notes to people on my road, and a few neighbours phoned me and asked for some.

"A month or two in I put a feeler out on Facebook to gauge local interest and I got an overwhelming response.

"Forty boxes of eggs were ordered and over 400 eggs delivered.

"This week we now have almost 70 orders for eggs, most of whom want weekly deliveries and all live in Kenilworth.

"A seasonal recipe is included with every egg box, and I've now invited people to send me their egg recipes to share with the local community."

The premium free-range farm eggs come directly from Tubbs End Farm in South Warwickshire, a farm committed to biodiversity and higher welfare for their hens.

The hens are encouraged to forage , explore and move onto new pasture every seven days.

The hens lay different coloured eggs and produce brown, white, and blue-green eggs.

The free-range farm eggs are sourced from Clay Hall Farm near Stratford, where they roam freely outside and come from a flock size that is smaller in comparison to supermarket free-range eggs, producing fresh and healthy eggs.

The hens there lay the classic looking brown egg.

Louise is delivering eggs to addresses in and around Kenilworth only (not as far as Leamington, Warwick or Coventry) at the moment as part of a one-month trial.

Boxes of six free-range Warwickshire eggs for £1.35 including delivery while six premium eggs cost £2.30.
