Leamington-based gymnastics and dance clubs team up to create YouTube channel which is keeping children active during lockdown

A gymnastics and a dance club which are both based in Leamington have teamed up to create a YouTube channel to keep children active during lockdown.

Leamington and Warwick Gymnastics Club (LWGC) and JayKays Dance have collaborated to create PE at Home with JayKays, LWGC and Special Guests offering 30-minute live sport-focused PE sessions.

A variety of local sports providers have joined the collaboration such as Lillington Juniors FC, Leamington Athletics Academy and Swim Works with more sports providers to be added as the weeks go on.

Abby O’Neill , head coach at Leamington and Warwick Gymnastics Club, said: “We are passionate about ensuring that young people have access to regular activity, we have been inspired by Joe Wicks and we decided create a collaboration to provide motivating & varied physical sessions to keep our children active during lockdown.

"There’s truly something for everyone from football, dance and gymnastics to martial arts.

The 30-minute PE sessions are live on YouTube every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 3pm and families can also access the saved videos at any time on the channel.

Jeren Hogben, from JayKays Dance Company, said: “Our aim is to reach as many young people as possible and we are delighted to be collaborating with our fantastic local sports providers to give something back to our community.

"Our children are sat at tables and using screens for an increasing amount of time, it is more important than ever for their physical and mental well-being that we instil a culture of exercise and the importance of it for our young people."

LWGC and JayKays are encouraging schools to join in and perhaps use these sessions for PE too.
