Leamington fundraiser taking on charity walk in memory of her much-loved mum

A fundraiser who is based at a supermarket in Leamington is taking on a charity walk in memory of her much-loved mum.

On October 29, Alex Pearson, who is the community champion at the Morrisons supermarket, will be walking more than 15 miles from the supermarket to the Shakespeare Hospice near Stratford.

She will be doing the walk in memory of her mum, Jayne who died on May 20 – and will also be raising money The Shakespeare Hospice.

Alex said: “I sadly lost my mum very suddenly. My mum dedicated over 25 years as a palliative care nurse at Myton Hospices and then at Shakespeare Hospice.

“The October 29 is going to be my birthday and what better way to mark it than to walk in memory of her.

“She loved her role and gave amazing care to every patient and family member in need of an ear.”

Alex will be walking with her dog Chester, who has accompanied Alex on many fundraisers, her sister Victoria as well as some friends.

The Shakespeare Hospice team visit patients in Kenilworth, Southam, Bidford-on Avon, Fenny Compton, Alcester, Studley and Shipston.

Alex: “The day will be very hard as it’s only been four months since my world has been changed.

“I’ve been known for a lot of crazy fundraisers – from pedalling down the grand Union canal in a pedalo, rowing with a mayor along the Avon, walking 30 miles in a day and even cycling in a side by side tandem.

“This one is going to be my most mentally challenging day as it will be full of emotions.

“It will be tough and I will shed tears but I want to support a place my mum loved being a part of.

“She spoke highly of the team she was a part of. They all have funny stories of her and it’s great to know she lives on with them all. It will be nice to give something back to the team my mum loved working with and help the hospice.”
