Markets held weekly in Warwick and Kenilworth are set to continue following Warwickshire being placed in tier 4 restrictions.

Following the Government’s announcement last week of Warwickshire being place in tier 4, CJ's Events Warwickshire have confirmed after consultation with Warwick District Council that they will remain open for essential stalls only.

Jamie Walker of CJ's Events Warwickshire said: "Last year we faced a really difficult and challenging time, but we managed to keep our markets open for essential stalls during the lockdowns in line with Central and Local Government advice, and the tier 4 restrictions will be no different.

"We still face a bumpy time ahead, but following the first lockdown back in March 2020, we have the plans, policies and procedures in place to ensure our markets can remain open for business, providing a safe environment for our team, traders, visitors and the wider community.

"Markets remain at the heart of the community and will provide essential products only whilst in tier 4, including fish, meat, bread, olives, fruit and veg, cannoli, pies, cheese and more.

"It's important communities support their local market traders during these difficult times in a safe and Covid-secure manner.

"We believe markets are a much safer way to shop, with plenty of space, in an open air environment.

"Safety remains at the forefront of our operations and the delivery of our markets are under weekly review

"Some of our original safety measures will be re-introduced such as card only payments, this is one of the ways to ensure we help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

"We will continue to work closely with the senior management, events and environmental health teams at Warwick District Council, to ensure our safety measures are adequate and the markets are running in line with legislation set out by Central Government.

"All we ask visitors to do, is to ensure they keep their distance from other visitors and traders, make payments by card or contactless, use hand sanitiser, point and not pick up products and to be kind to others."

Warwick and Kenilworth markets will run 9am until 3pm every week.
