A new chairman has been elected for Warwick District Council.

Cllr Martyn Ashford has been elected as the new chairman with Cllr Pam Redford (Con Cubbington and Leek Wootton) voted in as vice-chairman.

Cllr Ashford, who represents the Warwick Aylesford, took over from Cllr George Illingworth (Con Kenilworth Abbey and Arden) during Wednesday's (May 20) annual meeting which was held remotely and screened live on YouTube.

The event is usually one of the highlights of the civic calendar but the current lockdown meant the meeting lasted less than 30 minutes. It is hoped that a more formal celebration of Cllr Illingworth’s year in office can be held later this year.
