New chapter ahead for historic Warwick restaurant and hotel as it prepares to temporarily close for refurbishment

A historic restaurant and hotel in Warwick will be starting a new chapter this year as it prepares to temporarily close for refurbishment.

The Globe in Theatre Street is due to close after Valentine’s Day so that refurbishment works can take place, which should be done and reopened by the summer.

The hotel and restaurant was last refurbished in autumn 2018.

News of the refurbishment comes after the pub was taken over by Brunning and Price.

Brunning and Price also owns the Arrow Mill in Alcester, the Bell in Alderminster and the Falcon in Warmington, Banbury.

A Historic site

The Globe first opened in 1788 as the Globe Inn Commercial and Posting House, on the corner of Theatre Street, between Warwick Castle and Market Place.

In the early 1800s, this Grade II listed building became a theatre hosting pantomimes and plays, and until the 1960s was accessible via an iron bridge spanning a ravine-like street named The Holloway.

New life for The Globe

Mary Willcock, CEO for Brunning and Price said: “The Globe has such great potential, and it is an honour to be able to breathe new life into a pub steeped in so much history.

“We think simple things done well are often the best, so once the investment is complete, we hope to have created a friendly atmosphere in attractive surroundings where locals, regulars and new customers can meet, eat, drink and relax.

"That for us, is what being a good pub in the heart of its community is all about.

“In addition, following extensive refurbishment, the Globe will proudly unveil its beautifully restored bedrooms, combining period character with contemporary comfort.

"We look forward to welcoming both new visitors and long-time friends to rediscover its charm”

The work will start immediately and, in addition to a full refurbishment of the pub and bedrooms, a new private dining room, which will be able seat 18 people is also being created.

An opening date is expected to be announced later this year but the company said it is hoping to reopen the site in June.
