At one point, police officers were called in to turn people away.

The event Kenilworth Drive-In Cinema event on October 31 advertised a Halloween themed film - Ghostbusters - at 5pm and the a bonfire and 6.50pm and fireeworks at 7pm.

But the Courier and Weekly News received many messages on the night from people extremely upset that they were unable to get in, despite buying ticket for the event.

We tried to contact Kenilworth Drive-In Cinema but have not heard back yet. However, on its Facebook page, it said: "We would like to sincerely apologise for the issues at this evening’s event.

"All tickets that were not scanned for entry will be refunded.

"As a significant amount of people entered and stayed for the entirety of the event, we will be handling any other refunds on an individual basis."

The organisers were due to hold another event this weekend but that has been cancelled due to the new Covid-19 restrictions.

Many people have been keen to support Kenilworth Drive-In Cinema for their previous events at The Gatehouse, Leamington Road, Kenilworth, which have been successful and popular with residents.

But as well as messages we received, people took to social media to vent their anger over Saturday's event, describing it as a 'shambles' and a 'horrendous experience'.

Some said they waited outside for over an hour before being told by police that the event was cancelled.
