Owner of butcher shops in Leamington and Warwick delivers some festive cheer to people in need

The owner of butchers shops in Leamington and Warwick has helped deliver some festive cheer to people in need.

Rowley’s Butchers has teamed up with Warwick District Council to provide Christmas hampers to local people who are struggling financially or are in temporary accommodation.

Owner, Jamie Rowley, who has shops in both Warwick and Leamington town centres contacted the council’s housing team to ask if he could supply turkey crowns and other seasonal produce to families who would benefit from assistance this Christmas.

The hampers will be delivered early this week by members of the Rangers Service.

Jamie Rowley from Rowley’s Butchers, said: “We are lucky that our business is well supported by the local community and we are grateful that this has continued throughout these difficult times.

"Since the start of the pandemic we have wanted to give something back to those who are more affected than we were.

"We started with our NHS workers by offering them free breakfast twice a week, for which we got an amazing response from our customers who gave donations.

"Later in the year we extended this to children’s lunches, which was so well received on social media that Andrew Davies Bakery came on board donating bread and cookies.

"Following this success and as Christmas approached I asked each of our customers who placed an order to donate £1 to help feed the people who would probably not be able to have the traditional Christmas dinner that most of us would enjoy.

"Once again we got a great reaction and have been able to supply over 160 local families with a hamper containing a turkey crown, pigs in blankets and some homemade stuffing.

"This is something I will do every year from now on.”

Cllr Jan Matecki, Warwick District Council’s portfolio holder for housing services added: "Everyone at the council would like to send their heartfelt thanks to Rowley’s for this wonderful gesture.

"It’s great to see our community working together to offer this type of practical support, which I am sure will bring some Christmas cheer to these families in a difficult year.”
