This section of road around the site has recently undergone improvement works under the Birmingham Road and Stanks Island scheme by Warwickshire County Council.
According to the planning statement the site 'would serve as a facility for passing trade, as a facility for the adjoining employment areas and also as a meeting point for local residents'.

Some residents also objected to the plans because they disliked the coffee by the chain and because there were other drive-thru coffee sites not too far away.
Currently there is a Costa Coffee drive-thru site located next to Morrisons in Old Warwick Road in Leamington.
