Polish Independence Day celebrated in Leamington with music, history, and solidarity

Several distinguished guests attended the event, which took place at the Polish Community Centre in High Street on Sunday November 17.
These included Leamington’s deputy mayor Cllr Ruggy Singh, Warwick Mayor Cllr David Skinner and Warwick and Leamington MP Matt Western.

Hide AdThe event marked the 106th anniversary of Poland’s return to the map of Europe after 123 years of foreign occupation.
It was a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made for freedom and celebration of resilience, culture and solidarity.
The commemoration also acknowledged the ongoing struggle for freedom in Ukraine.
Through the efforts of the Belveder charity, LKQ Euro Car Parts, and other partners, 43 vehicles, including ambulances, have been sent to Ukraine to provide life-saving aid.

Hide AdThe initiative, led by Dawid Kozlowski and supported by a team of dedicated volunteers, stands as a testament to the strength of community solidarity and the shared commitment to liberty.
Dawid said: “As we celebrate Poland’s independence, we are reminded that the fight for freedom never truly ends.
"Whether it’s supporting Ukraine or helping those in our local community, we stand united in solidarity and hope.”
The event also celebrated local achievements.
Thanks to funding from Warwick District Council, the Polish Centre has undergone significant renovations and is launching a Sunday soup kitchen to support residents affected by the cost-of-living crisis.

Hide AdSpecial thanks were extended to Swinsons, which donated materials for the renovation.
The evening featured a concert by the Cwizewicz Brothers, sponsored by the Polish Cultural Institute, and launch of the Fathers of Independence exhibition from the Institute of National Remembrance in Warsaw.
