Ian retired in December 2019 from his role as a manager of residential services for people with learning disabilities.

Speaking about joining the vaccination programme, he said: “When I saw the advert on Facebook, I wanted to sign up and do my bit to help.

"The process was simple; I registered my interest, had an interview, completed the training and here I am today.

“The vaccine gives me hope that we can get protection against this horrible virus and is a light at the end of the tunnel for us all.

“I’m excited to be part of the biggest vaccination programme in history and I’m looking forward to utilising the new skills I’ve gained from my training.”

Mel Coombes, Chief Executive at CWPT, said: “We are really pleased to welcome Ian back to the frontline of the NHS.

"He has come out of retirement to help support the NHS in the delivery of the COVID vaccination programme and we really appreciate his help and support.

"He will be vital in his role as a vaccinator.”
