The big secondary school on Bitteswell Road, Lutterworth, urgently broke the news to parents and families through Twitter and Facebook last night (Sunday).

Nick Summers, headteacher at the 1,460-student school, said that a Year 7 youngster, thought to be aged 11 or 12, had tested positive for the coronavirus last night.

“We are really sorry to contact you at this late stage in the weekend but we have received confirmation tonight that a Year 7 student at Lutterworth College has tested positive for coronavirus.

“We will need time to investigate the close and proximity contacts of this student,” said Mr Summers last night.

“Whilst we do so we are asking all Year 7 students not to return to school from tomorrow (Monday 9th November) and to follow isolation guidance until we can advise further.

“We will work as quickly as we can so that students that can return to school and normal activities do so as quickly as possible.

“We do understand the difficulties this will cause to parents and carers but we must act on the information received and protect our school community.”
