The mystery of the Nissan Juke submerged in a Warwickshire river

A bizarre mystery has occurred at a Warwickshire hamlet where a Nissan Juke has been inexplicably left submerged in a nearby river for more than six weeks.

Marcliff residents have been left bemused after finding the car lying on the bottom of the River Avon.

How the car ended up in the river remains a mystery as the waterway is nowhere near a road and is surrounded by woodland and fields.

The car, which retails for £32,000, was spotted by a member of the public who alerted the authorities.

Orange buoys have been attached to the car as a warning to other river users.

One dogwalker said: "There have been buoys on the water there for at least six weeks.

“We didn't realise it at first, but there's a car trapped under there.

"We're not really sure how it's ended up there as it's far enough away from the main tracks.

“We're all baffled as what it's doing there and who actually owns it."

The Avon Navigation Trust (ANT), the navigation authority for the river, said plans to retrieve the mystery car were being drawn up.

A spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a car in the river near Marlcliff Lock and as it is potentially an obstruction to boat traffic, have buoyed it and made river users aware through our communication channels.

“Our clearance barge is currently involved with ongoing repairs at Nafford Lock, but once she is available we will attempt to remove it.”

Warwickshire Police declined to comment on the situation, stating the incident "doesn't fall under their remit."
