The fun park in Warwick has now officially reopened.

The fun park has been in St Nicholas Park for more than 40 years and Jay Wheatley and his family took over running it around 20 years ago.

Two weeks ago some of the fun park's equipment was damaged during a storm but the owners worked to get the rides back up and running last week.

Children were also able to enjoy free train rides during the morning.

Jay said: "We were delighted to have the Mayor of Warwick and his good lady down to the fun park on Saturday to formally reopen our beloved little train ride within St Nicholas Park.

"We've been really overwhelmed by all the support we have received and are relieved to be back fully open again to the public."

Warwick mayor, Cllr Terry Morris, said: "Many generations of Warwick residents and visitors have enjoyed the train ride at St Nicholas Park which has been here, in one form or another, for some 40 to 50 years.

"The fun park has been run by Jay Wheatley's family business, Greenspace Leisure, for the last 20-years.

"As with all businesses, the fun park was closed earlier this year during lockdown and the team worked hard to adapt the Park to enable it to re-open on July 4 with appropriate social distancing measures in place.

"Only a few short weeks later, the fun park was knocked out of action again - literally - when a tree fell during the thunderstorms of August 11.

"However, within hours, the Greenspace Leisure team, aided by Simon Richardson's team at Warwick District Council were on-site removing the tree and starting repair works.

"By the end of the week, the fun park was partially re-opened which is an incredible achievement in such a short space of time.

"It gave me great pleasure to re-open the iconic train ride on Saturday.

"Unfortunately, the train engine took a bit of a bump and so I first put a sticking plaster on it.

"It was then ready to roll once again and, to celebrate the re-opening, everyone enjoyed free rides that morning."
