Warwick mayor gets stuck in at community events

The Mayor of Warwick, Cllr Terry Morris, got stuck in with more community events last week.

Last Thursday (September 10) the mayor went to the Woodloes Community Centre to officially reopen it to the public after the pandemic.

Cllr Terry Morris, Warwick Mayor, said: "It was a real pleasure to formally reopen the Woodloes Community Centre last week.

"My wife, Liz and I are passionate about helping to reduce social isolation and community centres play a key role in this area, creating a welcoming place for locals to gather."

Kevin Hancock, secretary of the Woodloes Community Centre, said: "We were delighted to have the Mayor of Warwick reopen the community centre, and attend the AGM.

"We have been closed since March and it was encouraging to be able to reopen the centre again for the public.

"We are observing government guidelines to keep everyone safe and have increased our cleaning regime, for further information,please see our website www.woodloescommunitycentre.org"

Then on Saturday (September 12), the mayor also joined several residents for a litter pick at Chase Meadows.

On the day 21 different households attended and collected a large amount of litter from the area.

Residents were also joined by Warwickshire County Councillor John Holland, and Warwick District Councillor Liam Bartlett.

Children could also apply for their 'Blue Peter' recycling badge after the event.

The Mayor of Warwick said: "I had the pleasure of joining a number of supporters of Chase Meadow Community Centre for their “Big Tidy Up” event.

"It was great to see lots of locals, along with family members from further afield as well as fellow councillors all taking part.

"I lived in Chase Meadow when I first moved to Warwick in 2003 (it’s grown a lot since I was there) and I enjoy going back to visit my Mum who now lives there.

"Well done to Clive Ward, Jane Wright and the CMCC team for organising the event as well as to everyone who gave their time to help make a difference."
