The planned VE Day dinner that was due to take place in Warwick this week but was postponed is still on the cards for a later date.

The Warwick Poppies team, who helped create a massive tribute to the end of the First World War out of handmade poppies in 2018, had been organising a VE Day Dinner for this week.

Despite having to postpone the event, the team are determined the event will go ahead at a later date.

A spokesperson from the Warwick Poppies team said: "Sadly we have had to postpone our VE75 Dinner - but it has been rescheduled for October 28, and will be rescheduled again if that new date were to become impossible. It will go ahead.

"The SingWell Choir are currently “virtually rehearsing” every Tuesday evening in preparation for the Dinner. We will have so much to celebrate, including VJ75.

"We have had some fabulous bunting created for the dinner by the craft ladies and the Brownie group from Radford Road Church in Leamington.

"We lent this out this week and it all formed the bunting backdrop as ITV filmed at the Lord Leycester Hospital and was subsequently screened on national news.

"The bunting has now been loaned to both Torrys and NVHER where it will be part of the Town Council shop window display competition. So, it will all be proudly on show on VE Day.

"We have yet more bunting coming from Warwick Prep and Westgate schools - and likely much more - so St Mary’s will look fantastic when our dinner actually takes place.

"Whilst it is a disappointment not to be able to celebrate as a town, our current restrictions and limitations are way more comfortable than the conditions experienced by people during the war.

"Like them, we will celebrate when the time is right."
