Warwickshire Pride founder speaks of honour of being nominated for national award

Warwickshire Pride charity founder Daniel Browne has been nominated for a national award for his volunteer work.

Daniel has been named on the shortlist for the Volunteer of the Year Category for National LGBTQ+ radio station Gaydio’s annual awards.

A spokeswoman for the awards, which are taking place for the fourth year running, said: “Daniel is nominated in the Volunteer category for founding Warwickshire Pride in 2011 and volunteering an estimated 20-30 hours weekly for over a decade.

"He has personally raised over £500,000, founded food parcel and warm pack donation schemes for LGBTQ+ people in need, and established specialist support for LGBTQ+ asylum seekers-despite being a frequent target of attacks.”

The Gaydio Awards 2026, for which the star-studded awards ceremony, featuring performances from breakout girl group XO and drag star Bailey J Mills, takes place at the Manchester Deansgate Hotel on Friday March 20, give thanks to the unsung heroes within the LGBTQ+ community.

Daniel said: “"It's an honour to be nominated for this award, alongside other people doing fantastic, life changing work with LGBTQ+ communities.

"I often forget that I'm a volunteer as I'm so invested in the work of Warwickshire Pride and being hands on in my support of local LGBTQ+ people.

"What continues to drive me is the growing hate that LGBTQ+ people are experiencing, the backlash against trans rights, and of course my own experiences and not having the support I needed during those times.”

He added: “Whether it's a few hours each week helping people or volunteering for a number of hours that would make this a full time job – which it often is - making sure that people get mental health support, food parcels, warm packs, and anything else they need is the most important thing.

"Whether I win the award or not doesn't really matter.

"It's nice to be nominated.

" It's even better to be able to highlight the work of Warwickshire Pride, the amazing team we have, and a whole community of LGBTQ+ people that I'm incredibly proud of and fortunate to be able to support."
