One of the winners was Steve Hawkins (33) who learned of his £30k win while on a break from work. As People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson revealed his winnings via video call he burst into laughter and exclaimed: “No way! No way!

“That is going to make such a difference.”

The engineer was clearly overjoyed and when asked what the win meant for him, he added: “It’s a once in a lifetime! So this is amazing.”

Steve had some ideas for his winnings, but his first thought was for his wife, Sarah: “It’s going to take a big load off her because she’s been the rock throughout lockdown. She’s been working from home and juggling home learning with our six-year-old. So this is going to make a huge difference.”

He was also thrilled to hear that others had won in his area: “It’s such a great community feel, everyone looks out for everyone. It’s such a brilliant place to live. It could not happen to a nicer community!”

Steve was looking forward to celebrating the good news and added: “We’ve got a couple of bottles of champagne from when we got married seven years ago. So that’s probably on the list. We’ll open a bottle of champagne and toast!”

Another winner was grandmother-of-eight Mandy Malone (59). As a cheque for £30,000 was revealed she said: “Really? Is that for real?”

She was joined on the call by her daughters Jade and Lisa who were equally shocked. Lisa turned to her mum and exclaimed: “Unbelievable. You really deserve that as well.”

The win clearly meant a lot to Mandy who took a few moments to let the news sink in, Lisa added: “She’s had a really rough couple of years and so has her husband. So they can go on holiday, get a new sofa ‘cause the one she sleeps on is broken. She can really treat herself and her husband.”

Mandy had some plans for her winnings and was looking forward to treating her family: “It just means I can go out get my new sofa, get a new carpet. Hopefully we can make plans and do nice things with my two daughters. They look after me, they’re brilliant and they deserve something as well.”

Mandy also had some holiday plans for the future: “I’d like us to go away for a few days in a hotel when everything settles down again. I would like to go to Kefalonia, we went there once before and we loved it. I’d just like some sun and some sand!”

When asked how the family might celebrate the news Mandy said: “I don’t know! We can’t go out for a meal, maybe a takeaway.”

Lisa added: “We definitely deserve some bubbles!”

One of the local £60k winners was Martin Gamble (50). As a cheque with his winnings was revealed he said: “Oh wow! That’s amazing. It’s unbelievable.”

The factory worker later added: “I’m shocked. It’s going to help an awful lot. I’ve got three grandkids so a bit of that is going to help!

“For myself, it’s life changing, without a shadow of a doubt. I’m just in shock, I never expected to win that much.”

Martin said he would wait for his partner to return home before telling her the good news and hoped to use some of his winnings to get away in the future: “My partner works in a care home and she does 12-hour shifts at the moment. We just want a holiday. We haven’t had a holiday in a while! Anywhere with sun really.”

However, his first plans were a little closer to home: “I’ll have a drink later, I think. Might celebrate with a takeaway as well!”

Jordan Midson (23) was another winner who took home £30,000. As his cheque was revealed he said: “Oh my God! No way! That’s crazy!”

Jordan, who works for a learning disability charity, wasn’t sure how he would spend his winnings. He added: “I don’t know, I hate spending money on myself. I’d much rather spend it on other people!"

Jordan did think of one plan for the future that he and his partner Matt could use the winnings for: “Me and my partner want to go travelling, we have three dogs so travelling is very tentative! Last year we bought a van and converted into a campervan for us and our dogs. So the goal is to travel Europe. My partner has always wanted to go the Netherlands, Belgium. Anywhere, wherever the road takes us!”

Jordan was another winner who would be treating themselves with a meal at home as well: “Oh I’m having a takeaway, I’m not cooking tonight! I’m going to get the most expensive takeaway, because why not?”

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson sent his congratulations to the winners. He said: “What a fantastic way to start the weekend! I was thrilled to bring this great news to Mandy, Martin, Steve, Jordan and all our other winners in Harborough Magna. I hope they have fun with their winnings and go treat themselves to something special.”
