Gary, known for his outstanding performances in the Cotswold Hill League for the village's cricket team, now plays in the higher Birmingham League and lives in Shipston.

He is currently on furlough from his job at the British Motor Museum in Gaydon, and says he and his fiancée Felicity, a senior forensic scientist, had toyed with the idea of selling millionaire shortbreads online for years but had not looked into the health and safety considerations fully until lockdown.

The couple, who are to be married later in the year, decided to take managing and running a small business seriously from the outset.

“Once we had done the research, we realised the idea of producing high class products in our own home was feasible, so we set about completing our Food Safety Certification, registered with the local council, and set up our social media pages on Facebook and Instagram,” explained Gary.

Maynard's Millionaires was born in December 2020.

Baking takes place early in the week, so customers are advised to place orders via the website www.maynardsmillionaires.com or by phone 07470 311834 on a Tuesday evening.

“We just love baking together.

"What started out as Felicity's favourite treat has since become very popular,” Gary added.
