Warwick District Council plans to invest £12m in upgrading and expanding its centres on top of a bid to outsource management of the Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth sites from 2017.

An online petition has now been launched in hope of having the decision taken back to council for debate.

Objectors fear for the future of staff, contracts, opening hours and prices at Newbold Comyn, St Nicholas Park and Abbey Fields swimming pool under private management.

The petition, which has almost 300 signatures, states: “The inhouse team has shown it can deliver the efficiencies and revenues needed, as well as excellent services. They should be trusted to go on doing so.”
