Warwick will sparkle this Christmas after the annual Victorian-themed switch-on and the unveiling of a new canopy of thousands of lights in the town centre.

Hundreds turned out to enjoy the steam-powered carousel, ferret racing, traction engines, fire spinners, Victorian Market street entertainers and live music last Thursday evening.

On top of craft stalls, fairground organs and ghost stories from Victorian times, Santa’s Grotto welcomed children to get in the old-fashioned festive spirit.

A lantern procession from St Mary’s church brought visitors to Swan Street, Market Street and the Market Place for the celebrations and all-new light canopy.

Organisers have thanked everyone who came out to support them on the night, and said they were delighted with the response to the new light canopy, which will provide a ‘ceiling of stars’ over the town this December.

The night also saw the launch of St Mary’s church’s annual Christmas Tree Festival which takes votes for the rest of the week in hope of finding the town’s favourite decoration this year.
