For the second year, organisers of the Leamington Parkrun - a free weekly volunteer-run 5k run - are inviting people to show up to this weekend’s event dressed in pink and run one, two, three or four times around the course to raise funds for the charity.

This year’s Pink Parkun will be particularly poignant for Parkrun director Susie Tawney, whose organised last year’s event to support her friend Rachel Brown who was suffering from breast cancer. Sadly Rachel, who lived in Harbury, died just before Christmas.

Susie said: “Rachel and I met in hospital when we were both giving birth 17 years ago. Our children grew up together. She was diagnosed six years ago, but remained a very active lady.”

Rachel leaves her husband Jem - who is starting Saturday’s Parkrun - and three children Max, Phoebe and Finn.

Susie and other keen runners are taking on four circuits of the 5k course at the Newbold Comyn pavilion, at 7am, 7.40am, 8.15am and 9am - and anyone is welcome to join them for all or some of the laps. Spectators are also encouraged to donate money and raffle prizes and bake and buy cakes in aid of the cause.
