Pipe upgrades in Norton

SEVERN Trent has begun work to upgrade water mains in and around Norton Lindsey.

Contractors Morgan Sindall will help carry out the work, which will replace 4km of water mains in Heath End Lane, Snitterfield Lane, Blacon Farm Track, Wolverton Road, Littleworth Road and New Road.

Work is expected to continue until October.

Some of the water mains being replaced are as much as 60 years old and are made from iron which is prone to leaks and can disrupt service to customers.

Jon Tait, programme manager for Severn Trent, said: “Our aim is to ensure we continue to provide customers with a reliable supply of drinking water and keep leaks to a minimum.

“We set ourselves tough targets for cutting leakage over the next few years because we know customers see leaks as a waste and want more to be done to prevent them. At the same time Severn Trent customers will have the lowest average bills in England and Wales.

“Work like this to replace older mains is a less disruptive and more cost effective way of making improvements to our network. Far better than responding to problems as and when they occur.

“We know that some customers may have concerns about the work that needs to be done and how it might affect them.” For more information call 0800 783 4444.
