Police appeal after robbery in Warwick

Warwickshire Police is appealing for witnesses to a robbery that took place in broad daylight in Warwick on Sunday.

A 30-year-old woman from Bedworth was walking along Smith Street at about 1.30pm when she was approached from behind by an unknown man who gave her a ‘blow’ to her back causing her to stumble forward.

The man then grabbed her handbag from her and ran in the direction of The Butts.

The victim pursued the man whilst shouting for help to passing motorists, one motorist did stop to help and also chased the suspect to the alleyway (known locally as The Tinker Tank alleyway) which runs from the Butts through to Church Street and St Mary’s Church.

The suspect was last seen heading in the direction of Old Square then left onto New Street.

The victim recovered her stolen handbag containing a number of items which had been left in the street but her purse had been taken. The cream leather Radley purse contained a significant amount of money in cash, various debit cards and identification as well as sentimental photographs.

The suspect is described as white, around 30-years-old, around 6ft tall and of a medium build.

He is described as having short dark cropped hair and clean shaven. At the time of the incident he was wearing a black hooded top, blue jeans and white trainers.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information regarding it is urged to call police on 101, quoting incident number 207 of 22nd March.
