Police arrest 12 after brutal attack in Southam

POLICE are appealing for witnesses or information after a suspected attempted murder in a Southam house early on Saturday.

Officers found a 42-year-old man lying face down in a house in Ascote Way shortly after midnight after receiving reports of a disturbance.

He was taken to University Hospital, Coventry where he received treatment in the critical care unit.

Det Chief Insp Alex Franklin-Smith, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a violent attack, which has left a man in a critical condition. We know there are a number of people who regularly visited this property and we appeal to them to come forward.

“It may be that you are shocked at what has happened, or you may wish to make it clear that you were not involved. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence. We are also appealing to others who may have been in Ascote Way around midnight on Friday night or Saturday morning to contact the police if they saw anything unusual.”

Six men aged between 21 and 40 were arrested on Saturday and questioned on suspicion of attempted murder. They have all been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

A further six arrests were made on Sunday.
