Police investigate ball bearing gun shootings in Southam

TWO teenage girls were shot with a ball bearing gun in Southam, weeks after a similar attack in the town.

One received injuries to the side of her head and the other leg injuries when they were shot at with a weapon believed to be a ball bearing gun in Coventry Street on Tuesday April 17.

The girls, aged 17 and 18, were walking along Coventry Street between 9.30pm and 9.35pm near the fire station when a small green hatchback pulled up from the direction of the town centre.

Thinking the people in the car were going to ask for directions, they stopped, but a passenger fired the ball bearing gun or air gun at them before driving off towards the roundabout with the A423. The car is described as being similar to a Citroen.

Police are also investigating a similar incident in St James’ Road on April 5 at around 6.30pm, in which a man was shot at by four to five youths in a green car.

The man, who was not injured, described the car as a green Peugeot 106.

Anyone who can identify the vehicle involved or any of the occupants should contact Det Con Carl Buckley in the Leamington local investigation team on 415000 extension 11636 or can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
