Police investigate more damage to grave stones at a Lillington church

POLICE are investigating a second bout of damage done to graves at a church in Lillington.

The Leamington North Safer Neighbourhood Team are looking into the damage of around 50 graves on two separate occasions at St Mary Magdalene’s Church.

The first occasion was at the end of January, and it happened again on Tuesday February 28, where graves were toppled over and stonework damage resulting in significant costs to repair and restore them.

Community Beat Manager PC Jon Belcher said: “These despicable incidents have no apparent purpose but have caused significant upset to friends and relatives and those in the church community.

“Members of the team will be completing extra patrols in the area and I would encourage anyone who saw anything suspicious around the January 31 or February 28 to contact us on our non-emergency number 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Warwickshire Police would also like to hear from relatives of those whose grave stones have been damaged so that full details can be recorded.

Please contact them on 101, quoting incident 163 of March 6 2012.
