Police staff can volunteer to leave the force in savings plan

POLICE community support officers and other civilian staff in Warwickshire Police have been invited to apply for voluntary redundancy.

All 794 of the force’s such employees, which also include communications centre staff, scenes of crime officers and those working in human resources and finance, who have more than two years’ continuous service, are eligible to apply - although not all applications will be accepted.

Chief Constable Keith Bristow said: “We value our workforce of committed and talented people.

“Losing staff is not something we want to do, but something we have to do in order to make the budget cuts required of us.

“We have to reduce our spending by a total of £22.9 million by the end of March 2015. The settlement packages which will be offered for those choosing voluntary redundancy will allow staff to leave the organisation by their own choice.”

Applications will be reviewed, before financial packages in line with the force’s current redundancy rates will be offered to successful applicants.

The force says both officer and staff posts must be lost if it is to achieve the necessary savings. The decision to make the redundancy offer to staff, which was announced on Wednesday, was made following a consultation process with unions and staff associations.

It has already been announced that senior officers with more than 30 years’ service will be forced to retire.
