Police warning after gold thefts

Gold theft warnings have been issued by police.

The warning from Warwickshire Police is specifically aimed at members of the Asian community after break-ins at homes in the town where items were stolen.

A police spokesman said: “Homes of Asian families are targeted because they often contain gold of a unique design that has been handed down through generations.

“As well as financial value, it often has significant personal value.”

As investigations continue, officers are urging that all jewellery is locked in a safe place - ideally in a safe which is fixed to a wall or floor.

The message is to make sure jewellery is insured, photographed and write down all pieces stored at your home.

They have also advised that items of high value be kept in a bank deposit or that jewellery is registered with a registration company.

Homes should be kept secure at all times with doors locked and alarms and security lights fitted.

If you are buying jewellery as a gift, don’t leave it or its packaging on display.
