'˜Quality and customers' at the heart of new Treacle's Kitchen in Rugby

The business occupies a unit on Sheep Street which previously had been vacant for over three years and has now been extensively refurbished and brought back into use.

The new cafe will sell breakfast, lunches and afternoon teas, along with good quality homemade cakes, biscuits and pastries.

Occupying six hundred square metres of floor space, it will employ four new members of staff and put quality and customer service at the core of its business.

Michelle Edkins, one of three directors of Treacle’s Kitchen, alongside her mum and husband, said: “We have been running our existing business, Treacles, in the town centre (on Sheep Street also) for a number of years and we were keen to expand.

“It made perfect sense to have the businesses as close together as possible allowing us to have one central production kitchen and the flexibility to have staff involved with both businesses.”

Michelle continued: “We have spent a considerable amount of money setting up the new business as the building was in a terrible state. We wanted a finish we could be proud of and we think we have achieved this and we would like to thank Rugby Borough Council and Rugby First for the grant award which will assist with the renovation costs.”

Aftab Gaffar, Rugby First Managing Director said: “It is great to see another independent business open in the town centre, especially as the unit it now occupies was empty for a long time.

“The unit was in poor condition and Michelle and the team have invested a lot of time and money to bring the building back to life and provide another quality food offer to town centre residents and visitors. I wish her all the best.”

Cllr Heather Timms, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for economy and development, said: “I’m delighted the Retail Start-Up Scheme has been able to help a local, independent business expand, creating new jobs and bringing another town centre unit back into use.”
