Raft racers raise thousands for charity in annual Royal Leamington Spa Rotary Club event


Eleven teams made up of work colleagues, sports teammates and friends had a splashing time while successfully navigating the three-mile course from the weir at Jephson Gardens to Myton Fields in Warwick with the Fiflthy Oar team from Delphi Automatic finishing first in 53 minutes.
Bluebird, regualr winners of the event, finished second in 58 minutes despite having to stop to repair their raft while Marie Celeste, from the Eaton Corp, came third in 70 minutes.

Hide AdThe Lillington Bowls’ vessel HMS Tickitape won the award for the Most Innovative raft which was made out of 732 plastic two-litre bottles carrying a crew of four.
The teams raised more than £4,000 for their chosen charities and good causes which included the Encephalitis Society, Macmillan Cancer Support, Guide Dogs for the Blind, the Myton Hospices, Marue Curie Cancer Care, Molly Olly’s Wishes, the Motor Neurone Disease Association and South Staffordshire Rescue Services.
