Residents evacuate building after fire ruptures gas line

A RUPTURED gas line forced residents of a Leamington town centre apartment block to evacuate in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Just after 4am firefighters received the call of a fire in Oxford Street, and two fire engines from Leamington attended.

On arrival they found the building, used for residential flats, to be heavily smoke logged due to a fire on an outside wall.

The fire had ruptured the gas line, and an hour later the building was still heavily smoke logged.

Residents were evacuated from the building to safety, and by 7.35am firefighters had successfully put out the fire and made the scene safe.
