Reunion for first ever North Leamington School pupils

Those who joined the school when it was made up of Croft, Park and Manor Halls in 1977 will be turning 50 in this academic year some have decided to organise a big reunion at the Zephyr Lounge in Leamington on Saturday June 13.

Having met two former Croft students for the first time since his school days in the space of a week, Thinking he would just have a small gathering at a pub, John Cleary put the idea for the event up in a group on Facebook but the response was much stronger than he had expected with 140 people joining within a few weeks and more than 100 people are expected to attend the event.

He said: “Fifty is a landmark age and while we’ll all be having our own parties this has also given us the appetite to meet up and celebrate with some people we haven’t seen for so long.

“We’re keen to get as many of our year to the reunion as possible and ask anyone who knows someone who went to North Leamington School and is 50 between September 2014 and August 2015 to get them to buy a ticket.”

Mr Cleary, a father-of-two who still lives in the North Leamington area and is a photographer, attended Croft Hall of Cloister Crofts which had previously been Leamington College for Girls.

He said: “It all felt a bit alien when I started there but I have more good memories than bad.

“When I look back now it’s nice to remember the friends I had back then and the things we got up to during certain lessons. It was a good school.”

The event, which people will be attended by former pupils who live as far away as Australia, will include a DJ playing music from the late 1970s and early 1980s with people being asked to pick a track they remember from the time to be played on the night.

Mr Cleary said: “I’m realy looking forward to it.

“Just to have a few drinks with people I haven’t seen in years will be interesting.”
