Revised Local Plan is published

A new blueprint for thousands of homes and businesses in our district has been unveiled.

The Local Plan outlines areas which are likely to bear the major impact in the search for sites to
accommodate space for 6,622 homes. Space for another 5,231 homes is
expected to come from land already earmarked, small urban sites, “windfall” plots such as small pockets of land in the Warwick District Council area and old industrial and trading areas.

Original plans had earmarked hundreds of homes for the north of Leamington. But these have all been scrapped, meaning areas south of Leamington and east of Whitnash will bear the brunt of development.

The Local Plan also said new primary and secondary schools will be needed to cope with the increase in population.

Community facilities will be built, including shops. Major road changes will be carried out and changes made to public transport to make developments “sustainable”.

Potential Gypsy and traveller sites are also included in the Local Plan.
