Road reopen after car overturned on bypass

The A46 reopened in both directions at around 5.30pm on Monday after a car overturned leaving three people lucky to be alive.

The road between Stoneleigh and the Kenilworth and Leamington exit was closed in both directions just after 2.15pm on May 18 following the dramatic crash.

The car landed on its roof on the opposite carriageway of the bypass leaving three people requiring hospital treatment.

Two ambulance crews, a paramedic and air ambulance were all called to the scene.

The driver, a woman, was taken to hospital, while another woman and a man were both treated by paramedic crews.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “There were three people in the car, all of whom were taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

“A woman who had cuts, bumps and bruises was immobilised with the use of a spinal board and neck collar.

“A man was also immobilised before being taken to hospital for further assessment.

“The woman driver of the car was a walking wounded casualty who went to hospital by ambulance for further checks.”
