Round Table enjoys great fundraising year

Kenilworth Round Table raised £41,000 for local charities last year through their annual bonfire and Santa's sleigh parade, a lot more than usual.

Different charities and groups in and around Kenilworth received sums from £50 all the way up to several thousands of pounds from the group.

Round Table’s biggest donation last year was £10,000 to University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire’s Breast Cancer Unit.

Another major beneficiary of the Round Table’s fundraising was the Kenilworth Centre, which received £5,000 from the group to help support its current activities and expand its services.

Chair of the centre’s trustees John Whitehouse described the Round Table’s funding as ‘a vote of confidence’ for the centre.

Speaking after the funding was announced, former Round Table president Stuart Greenwood said: “Round Table gave a lot of help to the Kenilworth Centre in its early days, and we’re very happy to be doing so again.

“We’re confident that the trustees have the passion and desire to make it work.”

Round Table’s annual Senior Citizens’ Party was also very well-attended, with over 220 guests filling the Sports and Social Club over two days in early March.

This year’s party was better attended than last year’s, where around 190 guests attended.

The success of the group was recognised when it won the ‘Organisation of the Year’ award at The Worthies held last May.

It won the award ahead of Helping Hands and the Tree House Bookshop after an external judging panel deemed Round Table to be the best of the three nominees in the category.

Following on from this success, the group is looking for new members to join up.

Press officer for Kenilworth Round Table Colin Mountjoy said: “Kenilworth Round Table continues to flourish within with an active membership of around 20 young men wishing to put something back into their community and make new friends.

“When we are not fundraising we have an active year of fellowship events, ranging from a simple pub quiz to engineering challenges.

“Any man aged between 18 and 45 who would like to get involved should visit our website.”

The group plan to bring their annual bonfire back once again this year on Saturday November 5, and Santa’s sleigh is set to visit every road in Kenilworth in late November and through December.

More details for the bonfire and the sleigh route are expected closer to the time.
