Rugby Culture fest has loads still to come

Rugby Festival of Culture kicked off in style on Friday with a special launch event at The Benn Hall and the action has been coming thick and fast ever since.

The Absolute Bowie tribute night kicked things off and since then there’s been plenty more music of all kinds, art, dance, film, a drinks festival and much more.

One of the activities running throughout is The Rugby Art Trail, showcasing local artists’ work at nearly 30 shops, cafes and restaurants in the town centre.

Free guided tours of the trail take place this Saturday, July 9, from 2pm to 3.15pm, Wednesday, July 13, 11am to 12.15pm and Saturday, July 16, 2pm to 3.15pm, where you can find out more about the artists’ work on display.

Tours start at Rugby Visitor Centre and places can be booked by calling (01788) 533217.

Rugby Art Gallery and Museum is at the heart of a wide range of activities, including A Dramatic Draw session at the art gallery today, Friday, from 6pm to 8pm, where visitors can draw a life model dressed in 1920s costume.

Admission costs £4, with materials provided and places must be booked in advance.

And then this Saturday, July 9, the art gallery hosts Make Your Own Drum Lampshade workshops, inspired by the new exhibition – A Life in Pattern: The Life and Works of Sheila Bownas.

Led by professional lampshade maker Zoe Darlington, the workshops give visitors the chance to create a lampshade from fabric brought from home or Sheila Bownas-designed fabric bought from the gallery.

The workshops run from 10.15am to 12.15pm and 1pm to 3pm, and places cost £25.
